Franklin R. Schneier, MD

Franklin Schneier, MD, is a graduate of Yale College and Cornell University Medical College, and completed his residency in psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Schneier is currently Co-Director of the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at NY State Psychiatric Institute and a Special Lecturer at Columbia University Medical Center, where his clinical research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for over 25 years. Dr. Schneier’s research has focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and pathophysiology of social anxiety disorder, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. He has conducted clinical trials of medication and psychotherapies, and brain imaging studies using fMRI, SPECT, and PET. Dr. Schneier is author of more than 130 scholarly publications and a book for general audiences, The Hidden Face of Shyness. He is on the scientific advisory boards of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and the Andrew Kukes Social Anxiety Foundation, and is Associate Editor of Comprehensive Psychiatry
