Kickoff Keynote Address — Neurocognition of Food: Culinary Medicine and the Role of Food in Psychiatry

Join Psych Congress for an educational and appetizing kickoff keynote address that will feature New Orleans' own Timothy Harlan, MD, FACP, Executive Director of the Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine, and Associate Professor of Medicine at Tulane University.

In his CME-accredited address and cooking demonstration, Dr. Harlan will be discussing the negative impact the standard American diet has on psychotic disorders. Attendees will learn about foods shown to promote optimal brain function and understand the role of diet in ADHD, as well as recognize how modern diets contribute to increasing rates of dementia.

Assistant Dean for Clinical Services, Tulane University; Executive Director, Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine | | “Eating well and eating healthy is the same thing," says Timothy Harlan, MD, aka “Dr. Gourmet,” who discovered his love of food long before embarking on a successful career as a physician. By the age of 18, Dr. Harlan was managing his rst restaurant and opened an intimate French Bistro at age 22. Returning to school to pursue a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Dr. Harlan found his way to medicine. While completing his degree, he began writing about the clear link between food and health, blending his extensive knowledge of food and nutrition with his medical expertise. Dr. Harlan is the Executive Director of The Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine (GCCM) at Tulane University. GCCM is part of an innovative program at Tulane Univer- sity that requires medical students to work in the nation's rst medical school teaching kitchen to gain a real-world understanding of diet and lifestyle in a setting that bridges the gap between basic sciences, clinical medicine, the community and culinary education.
